PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Linoleum Block Printing

Reappropriating symbols for meaning

Linoleum printing is a form of relief printing, one of the easiest and most direct of all the printmaking methods.

Linocuts can be simplistic and graphic, or as intricately detailed as you want. It's a SUBTRACTIVE process, meaning you cut away, or subtract, the areas you do not want to print.

Table Work

  • Develop a list of symbols and what they communicate. Where do you know these symbols from?
  • Identify any ideas, emotions, or concepts that these symbols convey.

On Your Own

  • Think of symbols that relate in someway to you - products you use, bands you listen do, cars your parents drive, etc.
  • Combine two or more of these symbols to create an original linocut artwork.

LOGO MATH

  • Create a logo addition equation
  • Logo 1 + Logo 2 = Logo 3

OBJECTIVE

  • Create your mixed logo on block-sized paper.
  • Focus on SYMMETRY and PATTERN in your design.
