PARTS OF THE BRAIN

BY GAVIN & JACK

Frontal Lobe

  • Memory
  • Speech
  • Emotion
  • Planning
  • Reasoning

Parietal Lobe

  • Tempature
  • Taste
  • Touch
  • Movement

Occipital Lobe

  • Vision
  • Vision Perception
  • Sees color, form, motion

Temporal Lobe

  • Emotion
  • Language

Cerebellum

  • Movement

Brain Stem

  • Homeostasis
  • Basic body functions

Corpus Callosum

  • Connects the right and left hemispheres of the cerebrum

Limbic System

  • Effects memory
  • Emotion
  • Behavior

Pineal Gland

  • Sees if it’s dark or bright if you close your eyes then sends information to your brain

Hypothalamus

  • Produces hormones that control body tempature, heart rate, and hunger.

Amygdala

  • Detects fearful and threatening things

Hippocampus

  • Learning
  • Memory

Cranial Nerve

  • Sensation
  • Movement

Pons

  • Respiratory rhythm of breathing

Basal ganglia

  • Integration
  • Selection of voluntary behavior

Forebrain

  • Thinking
  • Producing and understanding language

Mid brain

  • Motor movements
  • Movements of eye

PARAHIPPOCAMPAL GYRUS (IN LIMBIC SYSTEM)

  • Provides path for communication between cortical association areas and hippocampus

Cingulate gyrus

  • Functions in emotion and behavior

Broca’s Area

  • Speech

Sensory Cortex

  • Pain
  • Heat
  • Other sensations

Wernicke’s area

  • Speech compehension

Central Sulcus

  • Separates parietal and frontal lobe

Premotor cortex

  • Involved in selection of appropriate motor plans for voluntary movements

Supplementary Motor area

  • Responsible for planning of complex movements of contralateral extremities but is ispsilateral planning to small effect
