WHAT IS LIGHT?

• Light can be transmitted as particles called photons or as waves
• It is a visible form of radiation

HOW DOES SUNLIGHT TRAVEL TO OUR PLANET?

• Sunlight travels to our planet in the form of electromagnetic radiation
• It moves as waves through a vacuum

HOW CAN LIGHT ENERGY BE CHANGED

• The four ways light energy can be changed are refraction, diffraction, scatter and reflection
• Refraction:the change in direction of a wave when it enters a new medium with different wave speed
• Diffraction: the ability of a wave to spread out or change direction as it passes through an opening
• Scatter: to bounce off or deflect in different directions
• Reflection: when light reflects off an object

HOW DO HUMANS RECEIVE AND INTERPRET LIGHT

• The light enters your eye and the lens turns it upside down
• The rods and cones interpret the image
• Send it to the brain
