PERSONAL SAFETY AND PROTECTION

Personal Safety and Protection

  • Personal Safety-steps taken to prevent yourself from becoming the victim of crime.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings!
  • There are many tips to keep in mind while your public.

TIPS

  • Carry your phone and make sure it is in an say place to get too.
  • Avoid walking alone at night or in isolated areas.
  • Wear comfortable shoes so you can move quickly if need to.
  • Carry your wallet or purse in a place that makes it difficult to grab.
  • Tell your family where you are going. Call them if plans change.

Self Defense

  • Self defense-any strategy for protecting yourself from harm.
  • Have a strong, confident image.
  • Criminals are more likely to attack people who look vulnerable and confused

Online Safety

  • Keep your identity private.
  • Keep online relationships online.
  • Don't respond to inappropriate messages.
  • Tell guardians what you're doing online.

Cyberbullying

  • Cyberbullying-cruel or hurtful online contact.
  • Be careful what you post online.
  • Be careful how you word things. Someone may think its insulting.

Safety at Home and in Your Community

Accident Chain

  • Unintentional injuries-injuries from an unexpected event.
  • Accident chain-sequence of events that leads to an unintentional injury.

Keeping your Home Safe

  • Accidents in homes in one of the top causes of injury and death in the U.S.
  • Keep fire items away from children and never leave unattended food cooking
  • Make sure smoke alarms work properly.
  • Use a fire extinguisher if a fire does occur.
  • Plan escape route incase a fire occurs.

House Safety Tips

  • Be careful with your electrical system. Use safety caps on outlets.
  • Keep stairs in good condition to avoid falls.
  • Store all medications in childproof containers.
  • Be properly trained to use a firearm before using one.
  • Keep doors and windows locked during night to avoid intruders.

Community Safety

  • Increase police presence.
  • Neighborhood watch programs.
  • Imrove lighting in public areas.

School Safety

  • Schools should develop security procedures in case if an emergency.
  • Students should report crimes if they occur.

Working Safety

  • If you feel the work place in not healthy you should to call the OSHA

Outdoor Safety

Outdoor Safety Tips

  • Wear warm cloths if you are active in cold actives.
  • Swim only in designated areas.
  • Be prepared for emergencies.
  • Make sure you wear a life jacket when you are in a boat.
  • Tell someone when you leave and when you plan to be back.

Safety On The Road

Auto Safety

  • Obey the rules on the roads.
  • Use common sense while you are driving.
  • Pay attention to the vehicle and the road!
  • 25% of car crashes are caused by by distracted drivers.
  • Don't drive when you are in an emotional state.

Sharing The Road

  • Always use the side walk
  • If there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the road.
  • Wear proper equipment while skating and bicycling.

ATV saftey

  • Only one person should ride an ATV at a time.
  • Avoid taking an ATV out in paved roads.
  • Avoid ATV drivers who have been using alcohol or drugs.
