I had been researching for about 2 weeks to see if I could find any records of my great grandad as he was a soldier in the First World War. After all this work I was able to get this book which had information about my great grandad, and his time periods of where and dates of when he fought. So I looked through the whole book and found my great grandad, Frederick John Woodward. I am hoping to find some more records on him but with this book, I am able to find out enough information.

According to this book my great grandad was firstly enlisted in the R.G.A on 8th of April, 1916, serving in England till 31st of March, 1916. 1917 he got moved to Belgium till November and in France he was serving from 10th November 1917 till 13 February 1919. Engagements: Messiness,1917; retirement and advance on the Somme, 1918. Promoted bombardier. Wounded by shrapnel; shell shock. Demobilised 14 February. Resumed work at the press

This is my great- grandads wife. In this picture she is with his son, Basil
Woodward. Sadly Frederick only was able to stay with Basil till he was one years old, then he was off fighting in the war. When he came back Basil was 4 years old. Sadly he Basil didn’t even remember who he was and it took him a long time to realise.
