"People do not like to think. If one thinks, one must come to conclusions. Conclusions are not always pleasant."
~Helen Keller

James Loewen uses this powerful quote from Helen Keller to help demonstrate how Americans have allowed themselves to have false, sanitized history taught in public schools.

Throughout the book, the author compares excerpts of some of the most purchased history textbooks and compares them to fact and to leading theories.

Some of the main characters in the book are Woodrow Wilson (and his racism), Helen Keller (and her socialist views), and Christopher Columbus (and his enslavement of Native Americans).

All of the authors ideas tie into one key theme:

Eurocentrism, the idea that all things good came from Europe and the West.

This is the main conflict of the book, where Loewen talks about the deep rooted Eurocentrism in our culture versus our Nation's changing times and growing diversity

I highly recommend this book to any fan of history and as a reality check to any person that owns a shirt that says "'America".
