PRESENTATION OUTLINE
LGBTQ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer. The issue in this topic is that teens are being discriminated against. In this slideshow, I will present the different types of discrimination that are happening, why this is happening, as well as how YOU can help.
Discrimination happens in many ways in our society and there is a lot we can do to make it better.
LGBTQ+ rights matter to me because we all know many people who would benefit from fair and equal treatment.
What I want to highlight about this topic is how society could improve by being more accepting and inclusive.
A large issue is that in eight states: Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah, teens are getting discriminated because of the law No Promo Homo
No Promo Homo means the non-promotion of homosexuality. In states where no promo homo laws apply, teachers are expressly forbidden to teach health/sexuality classes. This means that they cannot talk about lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender people or topics in a positive way, if at all. If teens declare themselves as LGBTQ+, they will be discriminated in many types of ways.
Types of discrimination originate from the lack of education and promotion of alternative cultures that were previously suppressed. Now, with the internet and social media, these cultures are now more visible to the greater society and can no longer be ignored.
Discrimination includes:
Physical bullying which has its own obvious consequences
More passive agressing bullying and harassing on any social media platform can lead to great psychological harm, which can in turn lead to increases in suicide rates.
Exclusion: There are many forms of discrimination by simply excluding LGBTQ+ people for no other reason. This can be social events like a school dance, community activities, or even financial opportunities.
Exclusion can also prevent them from access to healthcare, social services, and sex education.
Conclusion
Finally, I encourage you to accept and appreciate the differences between people for sexual preferences, as well as their cultural differences.
