FLAG

  • From peace movements to political parties, the rainbow flag has been the symbol of dozens of historical and cultural organizations. In 1978, though, a gay artist and civil rights activist Gilbert Baker, alongside the Grove Street gay community in San Francisco, made the first rainbow pride flag as a response to an anti-gay community that began using the pink triangle the Nazis used to identify gay individuals

COUNTRIES THAT SUPPORT THE GAY COMMUNITY

  • Denmark It has been a pioneer country in terms of rights of this group. In 1989, the European nation made history by becoming the first country to recognize the union between same-sex couples. This has allowed, over the decades, the capital Copenhagen to be a favorite destination for homosexuals around the world. In addition, in this city is located Centralhjornet, the oldest gay bar in Europe, dating back to the 1950s.

  • Canada The Canadian city of Toronto was a pioneer in organizing the first egalitarian marriages in this part of the planet, which has promoted the flourishing of the area called "Village", where the gay community comes in the marches for pride. Egalitarian marriage has been allowed since 2005.

  • United States In 2015, the United States Supreme Court stated that same-sex couples are entitled to marriage anywhere in the country. Thus, the 14 states that still prohibited this type of civil union must end the restrictions. This week, a judge issued an opinion requiring public officials to hold such ceremonies even though their faith forbids them.
