CANCER

  • Cancer occurs when cells start to reproduce at an unhealthy rate.
  • This is the result of a genetic mutation.
  • It is harmful when cells form a malignant tumor.
  • Mutation occurs when the cell's DNA is damaged.

THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

  • The circulatory system, is a.k.a the bloodstream.
  • Transports nutrients and oxygen to every part of your body.
  • It carries away carbon dioxide your body produces.
  • It is like a highway across your body, going everywhere.

SYMTOMS

  • Pain in bones or joints
  • Rashes or red spots
  • Chills, sweating, and high fevers
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pallor and nosebleeds

RISK FACTORS

  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Genetic disorders (Down syndrome)
  • Blood disorders
  • Exposure to chemicals

STATISTICS

  • ALL is the most common cancer in children/teens.
  • 1 in 3 cancers that kids have are leukemia.
  • More common men/boys than girls/women.
  • More likely to occur in white people than black.
  • Most common in adults over 60 years of age.

  • Every 10 minutes, an American dies from blood cancer.
  • That is 152 people a day, and six people an hour.
  • Every 4 minutes, an American is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
  • About 31% more males are living with leukemia than females.
  • There are 3 blood cancers: Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma.
