  • Sketchbooks show that Da Vinci envisioned things his era didn't have the technology for
  • He was interested in weapons, flying machines, water systems, and tools
  • He had sketches for a parachute, machine gun, helicopter, bicycle, and ball bearings

MIRROR WRITING

  • Da Vinci invented his own shorthand
  • "Mirror Writing"
  • He wrote from right to left in Italian
  • He only wrote normally when he wanted his writings to be read
  • He was left handed

THEORIES

  • He didn't want his ideas to be stolen
  • He was hiding his scientific ideas from the Catholic Church
  • Writing left to right was messy for a lefty

  • Currently in The Louvre in Paris, France

MONA LISA STOLEN

  • Stolen on August 21, 1911
  • 2 years later the thief sold the painting to an antique dealer
  • The thief called himself Leonardo Vincenzo
  • His real name was Vincenzo Peruggia
  • He didn't want to destroy the painting, only return it to Italy

  • Captures the reactions of the Apostles
  • Painted on the wall of the Santa Maria delle Grazin in Milan

  • Wrote with one hand and drew with the other at the same time
  • Bill Gates bought his scientific writings for $30 million in 1994
