• The buildings are modernised, converted, demolished and replaced.
• The gap sites filled.
• One of the areas which has undergone such a transformation is Central Leith.

THE EFFECTS OF THE CHANGS ON LEITH

• Increase the population as Civil Servants in the Scottish Government from other areas of the city and beyond.
• Attract people from the rest of Edinburgh to spend their leisure time in Leith.
• Attract wealthier people to live in Leith
• Create an affluent dock and riverside fringe around a core which, though improved, has still many if the attributes of an inner city.
• • An increase in atmospheric pollution, as a result of traffic congestion.
