ENFORCEMENT OF SANCTION

  • On August 11, 2006 Canada imposed its trade sanction on Lebanon.
  • Canada was acting under the laws of the Charter of the UN. 

Hezbollah Attack

  • The Hezbollah attack instigated the sanction.
  • Non-stop violence outbreak between Israelis and Lebanese militants.
  • Government of Canada and the UN were concerned with the extensive damage.

SANCTION EFFECT ON LEBANON

  • Can positively impact the policitcal and economic instability
  • Bad for consumers and businesses, because it increases cost.
  • Detrimental to Lebanon's GDP

SANCTION EFFECT ON CANADA

  • Reduction of choice of goods and services that domestic consumers will have
  • Increase cost of doing business for companies that supply sanctioned goods
  • The sanction can lead to trading  consequences with Lebanon.
