PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Learning Experience #4

What have I Learned?

Throughout this final Learning Experience I learned the Following:
- how assessment for/as/of learning manifests itself in the music classroom
- how to analyze classroom scenarios for their ineffectiveness and brainstorm ideas on how to create a more positive atmosphere to foster student engagement
- the value of differentiated assessment
- deepened understanding of the GPS program and how it can support a well-rounded music program

Thinking...
I enjoyed making connections between our other Learning Experiences and this one. It was interesting to put into 'practice' all that we have learned while analyzing the videos in E-tivity #1, and it was practical to brainstorm ideas of how assessment would actually manifest in the music classroom.
I struggled to differentiate between E-Tivity #2 and E-Tivity #3. I did not quite understand what you were looking for in #3. For E-Tivity #2, I read more of the documents than I was supposed to (as I usually do), and ended up creating the mind-map for E-tivity #3, so I then had to work backward and delete some information from my original mind-map.

Feeling...
Throughout Learning Experience #4 I felt at times challenged, and at other times I felt frustrated. I enjoyed the challenging aspect of having to find proper assessments for a music class, and to figure out what that would actually look like. However, as a supply teacher with little actual experience under my belt (and my teacher placements too long ago to remember), I oftentimes felt frustrated in that this Learning Experience relied heavily on strategies one has used in the past or would implement in a future classroom. It is difficult to determine what I would use in my future classroom without practical experience before as anything I think wouald be useful is simply a guess based on theory, and I cannot participate in any conversations about what strategies I have used previously. It felt a bit alienating. Unfortunately, I am not sure what the solution would be as I am sure these kinds of discussion and tasks are beneficial for full time teachers.

Impact On Future Practice...
Now that I know my opinion about the importance of Music Education can be corroborated by facts and scientific research, I feel more empowered to become a music teacher. This course has also bolstered me with plenty of resources which boosts my confidence in my abilities and makes me feel assured that there is plenty of assistance out there. I am confident in my ability to create a safe, inclusive and engaging classroom where my students' needs are met and their accomplishments are celebrated. This course has also connected me with community resources and programs which I can use should I ever need to support or advocate for my future music program. It has reignited my love and passion for music and has connected me with others who think and feel the same way.
