They are monumental structures shaped like arches.
The main structure is normally decorated with carvings or dedications to popular people.

If a General did something honorable, he was able to have a triumphal arch built in honor of his victories.

Only emperors were allowed to have them built.

It was built to honor his capture of Jerusalem in 70 AD

It was built to honor the emperor and his two sons, Caracalla and Geta
They fought against the Partians in 195 and 203 AD.
This was made out of white marble.
