Stevie is a high school student and he aspires to be a sports writer one day and is one of the two winners of the contest, which entitles him an opportunity to cover the Final Four Championship as a student reporter.

Susan is the other winner of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association essay contest. She is from North Carolina and is a student reporter

Stevie Thomas receives a letter that he is the winner of an essay contest. As the winner, he has the opportunity to cover the final four basketball games as a student reporter.

Stevie and his dad are heading to the award's breakfast when they meet the other winner of the student reporter essay contest, Susan Carol Anderson.

Stevie and Susan Carol discuss what they should do with the information they have and who they can trust with the information they overheard.

The Dean holds the kids hostage until after the game to ensure Chip does what he's supposed to do to throw the game.

To finish the book, duke loses because of the two teens solving the mystery. which is the the game was being rigged by the dean so that duke would win.
