Large families were useful. They were called extended families, because not only did families consist of parents, but there were also Aunts, Uncles, grandparents, and great parents to! There were cousins, siblings, and more!

The adults hunted and gathered food. Everyone helped raise the children.

The little ones where taken care of by the grandparents while their moms were busy.

Aunts, uncles, and parents taught children useful skills that they would need later.

Utes didn't go to school. Instead they learned from their parents.

Uncles, and fathers taught boys how to hunt.

Girls learned to sew and cook from their mothers and Aunts.

Ute children's parents did not believe in spankings. Instead, they thought that they should learn from their mistakes, so they could avoid that later in life.

Most children had a pet. Usually a dog, but sometimes a young deer, or a hawk.
