WHAT IS A LANDFORM

• Features that make up the earths surface

PLATEAU

• An area of relatively high grounds

TRIBUTARY

• A river or stream that flows into a larger river or lake

PENINSULA

• A piece of land that is mostly surrounded by water

MOUNTAIN

• A large steep hill

VOLCANO

• A mountain or hill
• Having a crater or vent through which lava has been erupted from earths crust

BASIN

• An opening of earths surface that typically contains water

BLUFF

• A steep cliff or bank

ISTHMUS

• A narrow strip of land with sea on either side
• It forms a link between two larger areas of land

SEA

• The expanse of salt water that covers most of earths surface
• It also surrounds earths land masses

CAPE

• A headland or promontory of large size extending into a body of water

SEA LEVEL

• The level of the seas surface

SOURCE

• The beginning of a river

MOUTH

• A mouth is where the river flows into the sea ocean or river

ISLAND

• A part of land fully surrounded by water

VALLEY

• A low area of land between hills or mountains typically with a river or stream flowing through it

PLAIN

• A large area of flat land with few trees

CANYON

• A deep gorge typically with a river flowing through it

SWAMP

• An area of low lying uncultivated ground where water collects a bog or marsh

GULF

• A deep inlet of the sea almost surrounded by land
• Also has a narrow mouth

BAY

• An outlet of the sea where the land curves inward
