LANDER UNIVERSITY

This university was founded in Williamston, South Carolina. The college was founded in 1872. Originally it was called Williamston Female College, as said in the name, the college was for women. In 1943, men were admitted, and the institution is now completely coeducational.

On July 1st, 1992, by action of the Board of Trustees, the institution became Lander University, which was named after Samuel Lander.

The mascot for this school once was a bearcat, and is now a Bengal.
