KLINEFELTER SYNDROME

  • Klinefelter syndrome is caused when a male is born with an extra sex chromosome
  • Klinefelter's is not inherited
  • Klinefelter syndrome happens when an error is made while making an egg or sperm
  • It can also happen after conception
  • With most of the males they are born with an extra x chromosome

SYMPTOMS

  • There are many different symptoms that vary with the age of the male
  • Baby-weak muscles, have slow motor development, problems at birth, and ect.
  • Boys and teens-taller the average, low energy levels, attention problems
  • Men-infertility, decreased facial and body hair, taller stature
  • Other symptoms include; delayed puberty, type 1 diabetes, and cancers

  • 1 in 500 chance that a male born will have it
  • The diagnoses may not be recognized until later in life
  • The risk goes up in older mothers
  • It increases your risk of brest, bone, and blood cancer
  • It increases your risk of autoimmune disorders

  • A study is now going on to see how klinelter affects the brain
  • They are also studying to see how it affects the immune system
  • Also doing a study on prenatal blood and DNA
