KILLER PROTISTS

PLASMODIUM

Also known as Malaria, uses a vector (mosquito) to travel from host to host. 300-500 million cases of malaria occur each year. This disease is most prominent in South America and Africa, and the symptoms are; fever, headache, nausea, and other flu like symptoms. This protist lives inside the bloodstream, clogs capillaries, kills blood cells, and can eventually kill the host if it isn't treated.

TRYPANOSOMA

Also known as African sleeping sickness, Trypanosoma uses a Tse Tse fly as a vector to infect hosts. This sickness occurs mostly in sub-saharan Africa. The symptoms are; headaches, fever (then the parasite infects the nervous system), confusion, uncontrollable sleepiness, and death.

GIADARISAS

Also known as Bever Fever, this disease is caused by the protist Giadaria, and is transferred to its host by contaminated drinking water. The symptoms include diarrhea and vomiting, this protist lives in the digestive tract of its host.

Amoebic dysentery

Primarily caused by the Amoeba Entamoeba histolytica and affects your intestines. THIS disease is transmitted through contaminated food and water. Symptoms of this disease include violent diarrhea, abdominal bloating, dehydration, weight loss, and many other things.
