This is just a couple of facts about Kenya and America

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: AMERICA

  • GDP: $51,163.3
  • Literacy Rates (Adults): 99%
  • % Of Girls In School: 96.3%
  • % Of Boys In School: 95.9%
  • Average Years Of Education: 12 years

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: KENYA

  • GDP: $942.5
  • Literacy Rates:85%
  • % Of Girls In School: 86.2%
  • % Of Boys In School: 90.4%
  • Average Years Of Education: 4.2 Years

How does my educational experience compare to that of the students from Kenya?
*Don't have to worry about shortage of resources (Here we don't have to worry about having a resources shortage because we have a very wealthy budget here in America and in our school district, but in Kenya you have no certainty that you will have the resources that you need since they are a pretty poor country.)
*Better environment for learning (In America we have public schools, desks, teachers, etc. to help us with our work and to make us comfortable and feel safe, while in places like Kenya they might not have teachers who really care about your success.)

How has this project changed my outlook on my own education?

*Not everyone has the same opportunity as us in the united states. ( Our country has the resources and budget to give all children a free primary education, while in Kenya they have to pay a lot of money just to go to one year of school. )
*Everyone has the right to learn no matter where you live ( Even in extreme places such as Kenya, India, and just anywhere there are extreme conditions whether it be weather or religious beliefs or that they simply have no way to get to school, they still have they still have the right to go to school no matter what the conditions are.)

What educational goals do I want to achieve as a 7th grader * what do I want to improve upon? Why?
I want to reach and keep a 3.6 GPA, it looks good on collage applications ( When you get a very high GPA you have a better chance at getting a scholarship to a great collage, when you go to a great collage and get a degree than you have a better chance at getting a great job and then you can live very comfortable.)
I want to improve upon my study habits for better grades ( when you study you can do better on tests and when you do better on tests you get better grades and when you get better grades you get into better collages, and them you get into better jobs, which will lead you into a better life. )

Sasha lives in Kenya. She has to walk 3 miles to get to school and 3 miles to get back home from school everyday. She wakes up at 4:30 every morning just to make it to school on time and then returns at 6:00 pm every evening. When she gets home she is needed to help take care of her younger siblings and help make the dinner which she usually doesn't eat any of and then do most of the house chores. She lives in a small village with very many people living there and does not get enough food, she is lucky if she gets two meals a day. After she is done with helping out with her family she has to do her school work, it is now nine o'clock. She finally gets to go to bed at 11:30.

Martha lives in America. She wakes up at 7:00 each morning, eats a very filling breakfast and then catches her bus to school. After school Martha goes to the gym at her school and gets to play with her sports teams. Her mother comes and picks her up at 5:30 and they stop at the local store to pick up their dinner. They head for home and when they get there Martha goes to her room (after getting a quick snack) and does all her homework in an hour or less. At 6:45 her mother calls for her and tells her it's dinner time. Martha eats her dinner and when she is done watches t.v for about an hour and by then it's 8:00. She gets ready for bed and is asleep by 8:30.
