CONDITIONS OF THE CAMP

  • Barracks are houses
  • One family = one room
  • Same laundry & cafeteria
  • No privacy

FOOD

  • 3 small meals a day
  • A mess hall is where they ate
  • Bells ringing = food ready
  • Meats were organ meat

JOBS AT CAMP

  • Government paid people
  • $12-$19 a month
  • Prior education and job didn't matter
  • Farming and planting were common

WHAT DID THEY DO IN THEIR FREE TIME

  • Same activities they did at home
  • Newspaper, sports teams and concerts

CHILDREN OF THE CAMP

  • School in dining hall
  • Half at the camp were children
  • Went to school every morning

HOW AND WHY DID THEY GET THERE

  • Roosevelt signed Executive order 9066
  • Most went by train
  • Train was packed
