TIMEFRAME

  • It is in the Mesozoic Era
  • It last from 201 to 145 millions years ago.

ANIMALS

  • It known as age of reptiles
  • There were land animals such as the following
  • The diplodocus, allosaurus, and stegosaurus
  • There were water animals such as the following
  • The gastropod, pliosaurus, and ichthyosaurs

PLANTS

  • The large majority of trees were conifers
  • Low latitude vegetation were ginkgoes
  • Then in the shrubbery the ferns dominated

CLIMATE

  • Jurassic began as a very arid desert covered earth
  • As it went the climate change to a humid jungle climate
  • Desert were turning into lush rainforest

MAJOR EVENTS

  • The supercontinent Pangaea has began to rift apart
  • It splits into Laurasia and Gonawanaland
  • The split caused the climate shift in this period

  • There were three extinctions i the period
  • The Triassic-Jurassic extinction at the beginning
  • Also had the late Pienbachian/early Toarcian event
  • Then the late Tithonian event
  • None of these are in the “Big 5” extinctions
