PRESENTATION OUTLINE

JUPITER'S MOONS

GABINO GARCIA, SRAV G.

BACKGROUND

  • Jupiter has 67 moons, but there' four main moons
  • Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Castillo
  • The most interesting moon is Europa
  • Its atmospheric conditions/composition are similar to Earths
  • It's very likely if there were water it would be under its frozen surface

EUROPA

  • Europa is mainly silicate rocks like those on Earth and the Moon
  • The thick ice layer gives us the possibility of water or life under it
  • Since Europa is the closes the an atmosphere and water
  • It has the highest chance to have life
  • Europa has a very smooth surface.

IO

  • Io — 3,660 km (2,274 mi)
  • Temperatures on Io minimum 90K Average Temperature: 110K Average Maximum 130K
  • Io has been studied by spacecraft from Pioneer 10 and 11 in 1973 and 1974
  • Orbit of Io around Jupiter (time) — 42 hours

GANYMEDE

  • Ganymede — 5,262.4 km (3,270 miles)
  • Orbit of Ganymede around Jupiter (time) — 172 hours
  • Temperatures on Average Minimum: 70K Average Temperature: 110K Average Maximum: 152K

CALLISTO

  • Callisto — 4,820.6 km (2,995.4 mi)
  • Orbit of Callisto around Jupiter (time) — 17 days
  • Temperatures Average Minimum: 75-85K Average Temperature: 123-145K Average Maximum: 160-170K
