COMPARING AND CONTRASTING

Treatment Of Women:

Judaism- In Torah, a woman has every obligation of a man, and a man every obligation of a woman.

Hinduism- In Vedic times women and men were equal as far as education and religion was concerned. Women participated in the public sacrifices alongside men.

Similarities- That both Religions treated the women as equal as the man.

Treatment Of The Poor:

Judaism- The Bible repeatedly expresses the obligation to help those who, for whatever reason, could not help themselves.

Hinduism- Poor people have no power while the wealthy people have all the power, but they would provides food to those in need.

Similarities - They both help those in need and provide food for them.

Daily Living:

Judaism- They wake up and say a prayer, before going to bed. They recite a blessing to God to grant a peaceful sleep.

Hinduism- Worship God, study Vedas, contemplate on teachings of the sages, provide food to those in need, serve guests with love.

Similarities- They both believe in and worship God. They read the Bible.

After Life:

Judaism- Resurrection and Reincarnation, The world to come Olam Ha-Ba

Hinduism- Rebirth, Reincarnation of souls.

Similarities- They both believe in reincarnation. And some type of rebirth.

Acceptance Of Other Religions:

Judaism- Yes they do but only Christians and Moslems because they have the same beliefs.

Hinduism- They are tolerant of other religions, respecting that they have their own beliefs.

Similarities- Both religions can at least tolerant other religons.

Founders:

Judaism- Abraham: Abraham was one of the first of the three biblical patriarchs.

Hinduism- There is no founder for Hinduism.

Similarities- There isn't really a comparison because in Hinduism there is no founder.

Deity:

Judaism- They believe in God

Hinduism- They believe in higher person like God but not exactly.

Similarities- They both believe in a higher power(One God).

Legal Code:

Judaism- The Shulkhan Arukh: 1. Orakh Hayyim - Laws of prayer. 2. Yoreh Deah- Diverse laws, Torah study. 3. Even Haezer- Law concerning Jewish marriage & divorce. 4. Khoshen Mishpat- Jewish civil law.

Hinduism- 1. Hinduism Marriage Act, 2. Hinduism Succession Act, 3. Minority and Guardianship Act, 4. Hinduism Adoptions & Maintenance Act.

Similarities- Both have a marriage type of act.

Religious Practices:

Judaism- Observance of Halakah shows gratitude to God

Hinduism- Sculptures and Images of God in home shrines

Similarities- Both religions have a way to show God gratitude.ll

Religious Text:

Judaism- Hebrew - Torah : The Torah was the 10 Commandments from the Bible

Hinduism- Vedas : The Vedas were the 10 commandments from the Bible

Similarities- The Torah and the Vedas are the same because it is the Bible that we use today, but it just has a different name.
