EARLY CAREER
Hughes began his career as an adverting copywriter in Chicago after being a college drop out.
Then sold jokes to established preformers like Rodney Dangerfield and Joan Rivers.
In NYC he hung around National Lampoon Magazine, then started writing stories for them.
This gave an early indication of Hughes's ear for the particular rhythm of teen speak and indignities in general.
After many film successes Hughes earned a 3 movie deal which then lead to his directorial deput.
