ADAMS HELPED INVENT THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM

  • Adams and Jefferson had different ideas on how to run the government.
  • The election of 1800 was the first election between the two parties.
  • Adams was a feudalist
  • Jefferson was a democratic- republican
  • The two party system still remains today.

JOHN ADAMA THE SECOND PRESIDENT

  • Elected March 4 1997.
  • Ran against Thomas Jefferson.
  • He was one of the founding fathers.
  • Term ended March 4 1801

ALIEN AND SEDITION ACTS

  • Signed by Adams in 1798.
  • The Naturalization Act, the Alien Act, the Alien Enemies Act, and the Sedition Act.
  • Naturalization act made immigrants have to wait 14 years to become a citizen.
  • Both the alien acts allowed the president to deport any foreigner he thought dangerous to the country.
  • The Sedition Act made it a crime to publish "false, scandalous, and malicious writing" against the government

JOHN ADAMS DEATH

  • Died July 4 1826.
  • Died the same day as Thomas Jefferson.
