JOB SHADOW NOVEMBER 22, 2016

WHERE AND WHAT I SHADOWED

  • I shadowed two people, Allen Thorpe(Architect), and Ron(Civil Engineer) at DLZ Engineering in Downtown Indianapolis

INTRODUCTION

  • Allen was always interested in being an Architect
  • He got his job by leaving a previous company to join DLZ

QUALIFICATIONS

  • To be an Architect, you need a Masters Degree
  • You also need 2 years of experience in the profession in many areas.
  • Some classes needed to be an Architect are Drafting and other Art classes
  • To be an Architect, you also need to know how to use a computer, how different materials go together, and building codes.

DUTIES

  • You work 40+ hours a week
  • You need to coordinate, determine the building process, and get buildings finished

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • The salary range is typically around $35,00-$160,000 per year.
  • Some benefits are sick time, paid on holidays, vacation time, health insurance
  • Opportunities for advancement include producing drawings, running projects, and being officer for company

PERSONAL SATIFACTION

  • Likes: It is different every day, it feels amazing to see a finished product
  • Dislikes- Working hours

MISCELLANEOUS

  • It has to be something you really want to do
  • In the next 5-10 years, this job will be more technologically advanced
