THE LAWS THAT SEPERATED THE SOUTH

THE JIM CROW LAWS

  • The Jim Crow laws were meant to be a new segregation act
  • The AA were seperated from whites in every way possible
  • These laws followed the black codes which happened from 1800-1866
  • The Jim Crow laws lasted from the years 1876-1965
  • These laws were ended by Martin Luther King Jr.

Impact on AA

  • The AA were segregated from whites, and treated unfair
  • In most restaurants, drinking fountains, and everything else in the south, AA were segregated
  • There were signs all over the South that segregated African Americans from whites.

HOW IT UNDERMINED RECONSTRUCTION

  • The Jim Crow laws went against the 14th amendment
  • They also went against the government
  • These new laws were violating rights of innocent african americans.
