  • The SS watches as the Kapos are to count the thousands of prisoners.
  • If the roll call is messed up in any way they must start over again.

Jewish work

  • The Jews would have to start working as soon as roll call was over.
  • If you are lucky enough you will get a good tool such as a shovel or pickax
  • The Jews worked 12-14 hours a day with bare hands.
  • The work consisted of moving heavy sand bags from one point to another.
  • Also to carry heavy stones and dig trenches or to bore a tunnel.

  • Jews carried the bodies of people that died during the work hours.
  • The Kapos are counting the prisoners including the dead ones.
  • The evening roll call takes hours some days it can be 10 hours long.
  • If a Jew tried to escape all Jews would watch until they were captured.

Continue EVENING roll call

  • This is also the time chosen by the SS for hangings and other such things.
  • After the hangings Jews would stand in front of the gallows to look.
  • The SS used the hangings as a warning sign to the Jews.

Germans and their collaborators killed between 160,000 and 180,000 German Jews in the Holocaust. Less than 20,000 Jews were left.
