DESCRIBING THE CEREMONY

  • The foreskin of the child's penis is cut off
  • It is done surgically in the synagogue
  • This ceremony is usually done 8 days after birth
  • In the 21st century it is easier then it was in ancient times.

WHAT RITUALS ARE PERFORMED AND BY WHOM?

  • it requires about 10 men to lead a prayer.
  • The circumcision is done by the priest
  • The priest can either be a physician or just a priest

Who is involved in the Ceremony

  • An 8 day old baby is the child being circumcised
  • The priests and parents are needed in the ceremony
  • A seat is set for Elijah because it is said that Elijah visits every circumcision.

  • It is done because it is said in the bible that god said to Abraham to circumcise his First born Baby
