The only thing that is talked about in Japanese history in American schools is the Japanese in world war 1 and that's pretty much it, hardly anything else is mentioned about them, other than that recent earthquake that happened in 2011 and their music. After that, I really don't hear anything else about them
Social ranking and status in Japan play a part in many major institutions that one goes through in a life time. In Japan, everyone is aware of everyone else's age. Vertical ranking, based mainly on age, determines everything from the location of desks in classrooms to the order in which cups of tea are distributed. Japan is the second largest music market in the world, behind the United States. Kimonos are still worn today on special occasions by women, men and children
Honestly I don't think that it's fair that we know so little about the Japanese other than knowing that they make manga, anime, were fighting in world war 1 and that earthquake plus a tsunami back in 2011. That's pretty much what everyone thinks about when they think of the Japanese. So no it's not effective and we need to learn more about the Japanese.
