Jan Van Eycks major achievement was "Madonna of the church". The painting has a dark blue/black coat with a red shirt and multi colored crown. The woman is holding a child. In the back ground it's a old building with arched doorways. There are a couple people in the back.
In his painting "Madonna in the church" he shows humanism which in most of his paintings he doesn't. In the painting the people are fully clothed making it more of a non-religious painting. The woman in the painting is also wearing a crown. The crown shows that she is superior. In most of Jan Vans Eycks paintings he paints people being worshiped but this woman is not.
He believed in Jesus and god. He had a strong passion in religion. In the painting "the Madonna" he painted Jesus on the cross, staged in a church setting. He also painted a woman holding a child painted as the way god wanted it to be. This was Jan Van Eycks way of expressing individualism by showing his passion with religion using his thoughts, and ideas with out fear. They still make paintings for religion representing the way the bible portrays it.
