WHO WROTE THE BOOK OF JAMES?

  • The author has been thought to be Jesus' half-brother, James.
  • James wasnt a follower of Jesus' during his time on earth.
  • He later became an apostle of Paul.
  • James became one of the leaders of the church of jerusalem.
  • Paul called James one of "the pillars of the church".

WHEN WAS THE BOOK OF JAMES WRITTEN?

  • As one of the chief leaders in the church at Jerusalem, James wrote from that city.
  • At a council, James decided to take the gospel message to the gentiles.
  • James likely write this book between Ad 45- 48.

WHO WAS THE TARGET AUDIENCE OF THIS BOOK?

  • The target audience were the Jewish christians living in Palestine.

The recipients of the Book of James were the " twelve tribes scattered across the nation". This implies that they were Jewish. At the time, the Jewish people were dispersed from each other.One possible reason is that these believers fled during the persecution which came upon the heals of Stephen’s death.They were living in fear and secrecy to avoid the fate of Stephen. They were also being oppressed by the Gentiles and the Rich. This is why James wrote to them the book of James,to teach them how to respond to these challenges.

During the time of the writing of the Book of James, Christianity was a new religion popping up. The Jewish are now being told to act according to this new religion. At the time the Christians are scattered to avoid being persecuted. They are also being oppressed by the Gentiles.
