HISTORY

  • Before the 1960s not many people immigrated to Canada from Jamaica
  • Limits to immigration ended in the 1960s
  • Most Jamaican families lived in Toronto

FAMILY LIFE

  • Jamaican women were responsible for supporting their families
  • Some families had to find childcare outside the home
  • Older children had to watch their brothers and sisters before and after school

Social life
Many Jamaican families who have immigrated to Canada get together at cricket games, at festivals, and other social activities.

If Jamaican immigrants were trained well,they usually would try out for a education,healthcare,or open a business for their job.If they didn't have training,they would try manufacturing or service.

  • Many Jamaicans in Canada kept close ties with their home country
  • As a result, Canada has developed a close relationship with Jamaica
  • Jamaica receives many of its imported goods from Canada
