On Sunday December 7, 1941 the Japanese have attacked Pearl Harbor and that's what made Jackie Robinson join the army. He quickly became a lieutenant in fort hood Texas, with a crew of men and in charge of tanks.

Jackie was harassed for being a black man while being in the army. He was told to sit in the back of the bus. He refused, and was put on trial. He didn't understand why he could fight for his country, but couldn't be treated equally.

When Jackie left the army, he was unsure on what to do next. He had heard about negro league baseball, a organization for black men to play baseball and get paid for it. He contacted the Kansas City monarchs and offered to play for them, which they quickly accepted his offer. He played many games, and traveled across the country with his new team.

In the major leagues those years there were only white people. There were eight national league and eight American League teams. Black players belonged to special black teams like Kansas City monarchs. Jackie Robinson had to play in the black league, until branch Richie, the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, asked Jackie Robinson to be the first black player to play in Major League Baseball.

Jackie Robinson played for the Brooklyn Dodgers for ten years. He mostly played second base , but sometimes at first base or third base , or in the outfield. His fielding was excellent. His hitting was excellent. He played for the Dodgers for ten years. His highest batting average was .338. In 1952 he got 3,705 outs. Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was inducted to the hall of fame in 1962,his primary team was the Dodgers. Most played position 2nd base.

When he retired he helped the team win more national pennants. He retired at age 35. They retired his number when he retired because he was one of the best baseball players and the first black person to play baseball. Jackie Robinson died from a heart attack in north Stanford, Connecticut. Jackie Robinson died at age 53. Jackie Robinson died in October 24,1972.
