PRESENTATION OUTLINE
What is the project about...
The It Gets Better Project was first designed to stop bullying and discrimination against gays and lesbians and raise awareness about what was going on and help stop this problem.
How was it first presented?
The project began spreading through YouTube videos online by a man named Dan Savage with his partner Terry Miller. In their video they explained what was going on and how students were being abused and mistreated for being homosexual. They began posting many videos to support the victims.
The videos became viral and many people began to see them and support the victims. The video began to gain thousands and millions of views on YouTube. Celebrities began posting videos and many people around the world shared their experiences. People were willing to spread the word because they knew it was a very serious cause going on and wanted to help it stop.
The #ItGetsBetter was created to help support the cause and was being used all over Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. People shared on and on the videos. The news traveled to Obama and he helped the cause by making a testimonial video.
What made them so successful?
What made them so successful was that the message was so simple yet powerful and motivational for everyone who was going through bullying or harassment in school. People began sharing their experiences through videos they created.
When did it become the most popular?
It became the most popular during 2010 when the project was first created. Millions of views started hitting weeks after the video was created. More and more people began sharing their experiences through the videos and over 50,000 support videos were made.
