OVERVIEW

  • Each country will have a brief introduction
  • Then three systems will be explained
  • Healthcare, Education, & Job Opportunities

CANADA

  • Current leading party is the Conservative Party
  • Prime Minister is Stephen Harper
  • Current HoC opposition is NDP
  • Current Senate opposition is the Liberal Party
  • Works as a Federal Constitutional Monarchy

HEALTHCARE IN CANADA

  • Funded publically
  • A portion of tax (13c per dollar) funds healthcare
  • Some lottery proceeds go towards funding
  • In certain provinces (ON, BC, AB) citizens pay for a health premium
  • Income tax money goes towards healthcare

EDUCATION IN CANADA

  • Almost always affordable
  • Post-secondary credentials recognized worldwide
  • Many options available for primary and secondary schooling
  • Four year university is approximately $73 000
  • Canada also offer scholarships to those who qualify

JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN CANADA

  • Many opportunities available to obtain a good job
  • Other options are available for immigrants
  • Some programs for immigrants include FSWP, PNP, & BIP

  • Communist country
  • Lead by Raul Castro
  • Off the coast of Central/South America

HEALTHCARE IN CUBA

  • Funded publically, through taxes
  • Anyone travelling to Cuba must have proper travel health insurance
  • All small towns have at least one doctor that is free
  • For larger towns and cities, medical centes and hospitals are available
  • Communism rules state that all basic needs are provided free of charge

EDUCATION IN CUBA

  • Education is free at all stages
  • Students attend primary school for six years
  • After secondary education, one may take pre-univeristy or technical
  • Before taking university exams, one must be cleared by CDR
  • Students with a good political standing are more likely to be cleared

JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN CUBA

  • All common jobs distributed by state
  • Special jobs involve large amounts of studying & industry experience
  • For foreigners, obtaining work is not easy
  • Small businesses are not allowed, due to state controlling all ownership

ENGLAND

  • Works as a Constitutional Monarchy
  • The Queen is head of state, but has little political power
  • Political power falls to the Prime Minister, David Cameron

HEALTHCARE IN ENGLAND

  • Healthcare is mainly provided by the NHS
  • NHS provides free healthcare
  • Many organizations make up NHS, such as charities
  • The NHS is funded by taxes with a fixed budget
  • The NHS operates seperately from the Department of Health

EDUCATION IN ENGLAND

  • Education is divided into two stages
  • Teachers are addressed differently in the two stages
  • Most schools require uniforms
  • After secondary, a higher education is available, but genrally untaken

  • Many jobs available if one has all requirements
  • Some jobs need more studying than others
  • All different jobs can be attained by citizens and foreigners

UNITED STATES

  • Runs on a Presidential System
  • Has political parties, but they do not influence the President
  • Current President is Barack Obama

HEALTHCARE IN THE USA

  • Insurance is available, but very expensive
  • Many Americans are part of public health programs
  • One of these programs, Mecicaid, provides care for low-income families
  • Medicare provides care and perscription drugs for seniors, or those with disabilties

EDUCATION IN THE USA

  • No national education system
  • Individual states have different systems
  • Each state has its own Department of Education and education laws
  • Every state has control over subjects, requirements, and funding

  • For citizens, employment is simple
  • Many careers available
  • For immigrants, they must apply in certain locations
