CHAPTER 23 -when the hunters left for the second time they left many wounded otter on the beach. Karana finds a baby otter that has a deep gash and nurses it and feeds him. Hunters harm Karana`s house only a little. She often thinks about Tutok.

CHAPTER 24- Karana`s birds have babies, she names them Tainor and Lurai and tames them to be as their parents. She found a young gull with a broken leg and heals him.

CHAPTER 25 - Karana realizes that noboby will come back for her.She stops counting seasons. Karana decides to make more weapons. She stops in case the Aleuts come back. One night Karana lets Rontu outside and he never returns. Then she goes looking for him, and finds him barely alive. Rontu dies not long after.

CHAPTER 27 - After winter was over Karana was working on her canoe and she thought she heard thunder. The tide was very low, she saw a crest on the horizon, big waves are coming to the shore and a wave hits Karana. It all goes quiet.There was much destruction.

CHAPTER 26 - It's winter time and Karana is all alone. Karana has a memory of a young dog like Rontu. She makes a goal to catch the young dog. She tries many things but finally succeeds by putting xuchal in a river and takes the young dog to her house.

CHAPTER 28 - The earth quake ruins all of Karanas food and weapons. She found her canoe and dug it out of the sand. Karana repairs her canoe and puts it back together. She spots a ship while repairing.She runs back to her house and puts on pretty clothing. A man comes to shore and Karana goes to him, but the ship sails away before she can.

CHAPTER 29 - After two more springs the ship came back. The men made a camp on the beach, they bathed in the rivers and hunted for food. Karana went back to her house and painted a symbol that meant she was unmarried, and built a fire also. She dressed up in fancy clothing and the smoke from the fire attracted the men to her house. Karana asked the men if she could come with them. They gave her a dress and sailed off.

Jessica is a 6th grader at Wood Elementary. She was born in Arlington,Texas on November 12,2002. She has a mom, a dad, and a brother named Gregory, he is a freshman at Martin High School. Her hobbies are gymnastics,and drawing.She has two birds named Angel and Disco and a cat named Mo - Mo. She wants to be a screen writer at Disney Animations when she grows up!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR - Laney is a 6th grader at Wood Elementary. She was born in Arlington Texas. Laney is 11 years old and her birthday is August 14,2003. Laney has one sister named Lexie, and she is thirteen years old. Laney enjoys soccer, gymnastics,basketball, and gymnastics.She wants to be Miss America when she grows up!
