PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CELL AS A SCHOOL

NUCLEUS

THE CONTROL CENTER
The nucleus would be like the administration a office in a school because the office controls and runs everything at the school just like a nucleus.

CYTOPLASM

JELLY LIKE FLUID THAT SURROUNDS THE CELL
The cytoplasm relates to a school campus because the campus is what surrounds and holds everything like the cytoplasm.

VACUOLES

LARGE, ENCLOSED, SACKLIKE MEMBRANES
The vacuole in a school is like a classroom because the classroom stores everything needed for the school to function similar to a vacuole.

LYSOSOMES

BREAKS DOWN NECESSARY MATERIALS FOR THE CELL TO FUNCTION
Lysosomes break down materials and also clean up the cells from the unnecessary "junk," this is similar to the clean up crew at a school.

CYTOSKELETON

HELPS MAINTAIN SHAPE AND IS INVOLVED IN MOVEMENT
The cytoskeleton is comparable to the walls that hold the school and maintain shape just like the cytoskeleton does in a cell.

RIBOSOMES

CREATES PROTEINS
The ribosomes are like the construction workers because the workers create the school based on instruction similar to the ribosomes creating proteins from DNA instructions.

ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM

WHERE PROTEINS AND OTHER MATERIALS ARE EXPORTED OUT OF THE CELL
The endoplasmic reticulum is similar to the school hallways where students move in an out just like proteins and other materials in the ER.

GOLGI APPARATUS

PACKAGES PROTEINS AND OTHER MATERIALS READY TO BE EXPORTED OUT OF THE CELL
In the Golgi apparatus, proteins and other materials are packaged and ready for export just like the mailroom at a school.

CHLOROPLASTS

COVERTS SUN ENERGY INTO FOOD
Chloroplasts are just like solar power plants that convert sun energy into power.

MITOCONDRIA

CONVERTS CHEMICAL ENERGY INTO COMPOUNDS
The mitochondria is like the cafeteria where the food is stored and given to students to give them energy needed to work through the day.

CELL WALL

SUPPORTS, SHAPES, AND PROTECTS THE CELL
The cell wall is similar to the fences that surround the school and give it extra protection.

CELL MEMBRANE

REGULATES WHAT ENTERS AND LEAVES THE CELL
The cell membrane is like a gate at a school that controls who can come in the school and who comes out.
