EARLY LIFE

  • Born January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, England
  • He was the only child to farmer Isaac Newton Sr.
  • He lived with his grandmother until the age of 12.
  • He was pulled out of school because his mother wanted him to be a farmer.
  • But he failed, and eventually was sent back to school to finish his education.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Isaac attended The King's School in Grantham England.
  • Newton then attended college trinity college in Cambridge England.
  • Newton graduated with a bachelor's degreein 1665.
  • Newton went home and pursued his own ideas in math, physics, and astronomy.

HOW DOES HISTORY VIEW THIS PERSON?

  • Newton is considered one of the most famous scientists.
  • By the early 1700's, Newton was a dominant figure in European science.
  • His laws of motions and mechanics continue to apply to the world.
  • Albert Einstein claimed that newton was the smartest man to ever live.

IMPACT ON THE WORLD

  • He discovered the law of gravity that we still use today.
  • He created calculus to explain his laws.
  • With his book Principia, he explains the workings of the solar system.
  • He made the world seem more simple by discovering natural laws.

REFLECTING TELESCOPE

  • A reflecting telescope uses mirrors to reflect light and create an image.
  • Many people still use a reflecting telescope today for many purposes.
  • It took over 100 years for it to become popular.
  • Today it used to observe wave lengths that are adjacent to it.
  • This includes UV rays, infared, etc.
