PRESENTATION OUTLINE

LITERARY TERMS

Irony
Using words that mean the opposite of what the word really means.

In George Orwells, 1984, the ministry of truth, it's responsibility is to create lies.

Orwell is making a point of how the media can use language to mask the truth.

Imagery
Using images to create a powerful or impactful impression on the reader.

"I wasn't about to go through that flaming door, so I slammed a big rock through a window and pulled
myself in. It was a wonder I didn't cut myself to death, now that I think about it."(91)

In these sentences the imagery affects the reader because it is connected to a life or death situation.
