IRENA SENDLER

Irena Sendler was a polish nurse and social worker.

Irena organized the smuggling of 2,500 children out of the Warsaw ghetto

She found a home for each child

Each child was given a new name and a new identity as a Christian

She made sure that every child would have a future

Mrs. Sendler listed the names of every child she rescued

Irena put the names of the children on a piece of cigarette paper or tissue paper

Irena hid the lists in a glass jar and buried them under an apple tree.

Her hope was to reunite children with their families after the war

She was the agent to save their lives

Irena Sendler did the smuggling during the last three months before it's liquidation

Irena was head of the children's section in the social worker job

Irena smuggled the children in potato sacks, tool boxes, and coffins, and laundary bags

Irena was tortured by Gestapo but she got help from the church and escaped
