  • The country is known as Iran
  • Iran is located in the Middle East bordering the Gulf of Oman
  • It is slightly larger than Alaska
  • The capital of Iran is Tehran
  • The capital is located near Baghestan and Karaj

MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURES

  • Iran is one of the world's most mountainous areas.
  • There are two major mountains:
  • -Alborz: with the highest peak in Asia
  • -Zagros: that cuts across the country for more than 1,600 km
  • Two major deserts: Dasht-e-Kavir and Kavir-e-Lut

  • Ethnic Groups: Persian 61%, Azeri 16%, Kurd 10%, Lurd 6%, Other 11 %

  • Refugees: the number of refugees are very high
  • Iran is a presumed source, transit, and destination for sex trafficking
  • Illicit Drugs are crossed along the border into Europe
  • Iran remains one of the main transhipment routes for heroine travel
  • Iran's border also faces problems with bordering nations
