6 GROUPS OF INVERTEBRATES

  • Arthropods, mollusks, cnidarians, Cephalopods, Echinoderms, worms

ARTHROPODS

  • This is the largest group
  • Segmented body, exoskeleton, jointed apendeges
  • They reproduce sexually through internal fertilization
  • Fly, shells, crawl

MOLLUSKS

  • Tree snail, clams, Gastropods,
  • Soft bodied and most have shells
  • Some reproduce by releasing eggs
  • Exo-skeleton, head, mantle, false foot
  • Ooze, shells, slimy, crawl

ECHINODARMS

  • Can regenerate body parts
  • Sea cucumber, sea urchin
  • Many Echinoderms have spiny skin
  • Radial symmetry (appendages)
  • Live in water

WORMS

  • 3 types of worms, flat, segmented, round
  • Round worms and flat worms are to small to see with your eye
  • They live in water and in soil/dirt
  • They mate and lay eggs (sexually, asexually)
  • Simple bodies, but segmented is a bit more complicated

CEPHALOPODS

  • Examples are, squids and octopus, lobster
  • Cephalopods after they get born change color
  • Squids store all there organs in the top of there head
  • Octopi and squids have to live in water because it supports there body
  • They have tentacles and swim

CNIDARIANS

  • Jellyfish
  • 2 cell layers
  • They lay eggs to reproduce
  • Body structure has a mouth a sack, tentacles, an ectoderm, and ectodem
  • Swim, jellyfish are 95% water, and have tentacles
