Invented by Cyrus McCormick in 1834, this machine did all the jobs a farmer would normally have to do to harvest grain (cut, thresh, bundle) in a fraction of the time.
While it was invented in 1867 by Lucien B. Smith, the patent for this technology goes to Joseph F. Glidden in 1874. This tool uses spikes on the wire to deter wild animals and trespassers while preventing the escape of live stock.
