ASIAN TIGER MOSQUITO AND INDIAN MONGOOSE

ASIAN TIGER MOSQUITO

  • First discovered in 1988 in Florida, later found in 1997 in Virginia
  • Now inhabits everywhere from New York to Texas in 26 states
  • Breeds anywhere that collects water(ie: tires, flower pots, bird baths)
  • Replicate very quickly, becomes an adult after 2 days of being a larvae
  • Carries fatal diseases including dengue fever and Eastern Equine Encephalitus virus

INDIAN MONGOOSE

  • Brought from Puerto Rico to Hawaii to protect sugar cane fields
  • Became predators of birds and small reptiles
  • Caused $50 million in damages to the poultry industry
  • Caused the extinction of 12 reptile and amphibian species
