Three Elements of the Introduction Paragraph

• Hook is the bit of perhaps previously unknown knowledge provided in the first sentence of the introduction-Use a quote
• Background information-summarize the website in 3-5 sentences
• Thesis statement completes the intro

Remember...

• the intro and thesis are helpful in determining how the review essay will flow, so you will follow the pattern laid out in the thesis statement
• Criteria should be discussed in the order they were mentioned: accuracy, objectivity, and authority.
• Developing a thesis statement will help you determine the order
