PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE SMALL AND LARGE INTESTINE

OF THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

The small intestine takes partially digested food from the stomach and begins the process of making it compact using mucus, stomach acid, and digestive fluid from the gall bladder.

The food then passes into the large intestine where moisture and any left over vitamins or nutrients are absorbed, turning the food into fecal matter passing this through the rectum and then anus.

Both intestine are located in the lower abdomen beginning at the stomach and ending at the anus.

FLUIDS

  • Multiple digestive fluids from the stomach, gall bladder, liver.
  • Blood to return any leftover nutrients.

CELLS

The intestines cooperate with the stomach, liver, gall bladder, and Anus

DISEASES

  • Intestinal obstruction
  • Colon cancer
