About this presentation

  • This presentation is here to teach you about internet safety. I do hope you're paying close attention, because you may not have heard of some of these facts before.

Set profiles to 'friends only'

  • I'm guessing most people don't want strangers looking at their profiles, right? So to prevent this, you should change your profile settings so only your real friends can see them.

Don't trust everyone you meet online

  • They may not be who they say they are. If they say they are one of your friends and you don't think they are, you can ask your friend if they have an account on that site or not.
  • And you should NEVER meet someone you met online in real life unless your parents are there.

Be careful about what you post

  • Once something is out there, you can never get it back.
  • You never know who might see it too, so think twice before posting anything.

Report or block someone if needed

  • If something someone says to you makes you uncomfortable, report it. They will most likely get punished depending on what they said.
  • And if someone keeps talking to you and making you uncomfortable, block them.

Don't give away any personal information

  • No matter what, you should never give away personal information to anyone. They just might use it to track you down and find out where you live

Keep your usernames and passwords safe

  • If someone got a hold of either of those, they could hack your account and ruin your reputation.
  • Keep them written down and kept in a safe place.

a word about location apps

  • Location apps can be both good and bad. They can help you find friends at a concert or such, but they can also broadcast your location to strangers. So try to avoid public location sharing if you decide to use one of these apps.

username tips

  • You should never give out any sort of personal information when making a username.
  • It would be wise to not use the same username for different sites so people have less of a chance to track you down.

Downloading & Email attachments

  • If you receive an email with an attachment from someone you don't know, don't open the attachment. it could possibly contain a virus that could break your computer.
  • Never open an email attachment from someone you don't know.

Social networking sites

  • So there are a lot of social networking sites out there, like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, just to name a few.
  • These sites have a certain age you have to be before you can join. These age requirements are here for a reason! They are to protect you and your personal information from hackers and other bad people on the internet.

Pictures

  • Remember those social networking sites I mentioned earlier? Well, they all let you post pictures in some way or another. A lot of people choose to post pictures of themselves.
  • Don't post pictures of yourself online without permission from a parent/ guardian. some people just might try to track you down using that picture!
